First, we must define Health, and then ask ourselves what our objective, or goal is.
Health defined by the World Health Organization as: The state of complete mental, physical and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
It’s the realization that we can age gracefully, with a sound mind. We can live full active healthy lives and obtain and maintain a good supportive social network. Sure, maybe we’ll temporarily get sick here and there, or eat a bad burrito or drink a sip of skunky beer and our body will still overall express health despite the occasional instance of “not feeling well.”
I’m going to suggest our objective is to not only obtain longevity, but also QUALITY.
Quality meaning, a full life lived without limitations to the highest degree possible as often as possible.
Without limitations meaning you can do what you’d like, to the level of your comfort and your body will be capable to support you and be in a state of optimal healing and recovery.
Where do we go for an instructor that can help guide us on this path?
Hmmm.
I’m going to suggest nature itself. Does a grove of Aspen trees depend on anything other than its natural habitat? Does a deep-sea fish depend on anything other than its natural habitat? Was the camel in the Sahara born with the inability to adapt? Can a cactus grow in a crack of slickrock given the right environmental conditions? What am I getting at here?
NATURE NEEDS NO HELP, JUST NO INTERFERENCE.
Now, we as humans you could argue are a little more complicated. But are we? Or have we made it so? We have an amazing ability to adapt. We can live with the camels in the Sahara, we can live with the penguins in the Antarctic. We can eat just about anything and adapt to just about any weather pattern/ condition. It’s why we exist over the entire globe, except habitation with the deep-sea fish, or on Mars (so far).
YOU ARE FREAKING AMAZING. YOUR BODY IS ALWAYS RENEWING AND REGENERATING ITSELF, NEW CELLS ARE CONSTANTLY BEING CREATED.
Our best form of Health Care, is GET OUT OF THE FREAKING WAY OF THE FREAKING AMAZING BODY.
Why are we so sick then? Because we don’t have a Health Care System in place. We have a SICK CARE system in place. A SICK CARE system doesn’t educate on how to be healthy, it’s outcome or goal, is to “keep you alive.” And I will tell you it can be necessary and emergency medicine is FREAKING AMAZING in and of itself. BUT, that’s not HEALTH CARE.
SICK CARE = Symptom = bad = body (machine) needs help warding off symptom = medication = surgery = numbers in “normal ranges” regardless of side effects = drugs for side effects = more tests = you are weak (machine breaking down/ getting old) = need more drugs = you can’t adapt = more drugs (replacement parts). In other words, if we have a symptom (a warning sign) we as a society have been trained that instead of heed the warning (check engine light), we shut it up with a medication, take out
an organ, swallow more pills, get a pat on the back, our doctor is labeled a hero, and back to the streets of stress we go. Bottom line: our SICK CARE system jacks with nature and the outcome isn’t pretty. It doesn’t work. The results create an illusion of “the pain is gone, I must be okay!?, Oh, but wait, now my liver is failing…”
HEALTH CARE = Symptom = take pause and listen = body (wise/nature) recognizes its out of balance with natural law = too much skunky beer/ too many brownies last night/ too many negative, worrisome thoughts/ too angry or judgmental/ too much sitting/ too much repetitive motion/ too much staring at an unnatural computer screen for too many hours? What is needed to bring body into balance with the environment? Better food/drinks (natural)/ Better thoughts/ Better motion/What actions need to stop?
Want the BEST FORM OF HEALTH CARE?
1. Go to a chiropractor that practices with an understanding of the philosophy of chiropractic.
2. Eat well, in moderation. Drink more water and less man-made beverages.
3. Move well, often. Take breaks away from the desk to walk the stairs, find exercise you enjoy.
4. Think well. Instead of the news or FB feed full of drama, feed your brain hope, inspiration, be kind, smile and find ways to love your neighbor.
5. Listen to your symptoms as signals expressing wisdom that you are out of balance with your environment.
6. Do all the above often and for the rest of your life.
7. Be smart – if it’s an emergency, there’s no better place than an emergency room with trained experts = heroes.
8. Learn from others that exemplify health and practice what they preach.
It really is simple. Let nature be your guide. Trust that the wisdom that created you from two cells didn’t leave you at birth. Your body is always doing the best it can to adapt you to the environment you put it in.
Garbage in = garbage out. Good stuff in = good life expressed out.
