You are not your diagnosis.
Let’s say I’m a physician. It’s my responsibility to listen to you, your complaints, your history, and gather all that information to then tell you what’s WRONG with you. First of all, how Inspiring!
As a physician, I have accumulated knowledge based on studying all the ills of humanity (there’s just a few), then I compare your story with the labels given to others with similar conditions and then WHAMMO, you get a LABEL.
At this point you have two choices.
#1 Choose the path most take: Get a pill, accept your diagnosis (label), and go on about your life dealing with the potential side effects (maybe get on another pill, 3 or 4 later on).
#2 Choose the path less traveled. (Come along with Robert Frost and I)
First of all, I’m NOT going to tell you to NOT take a medication. You may truly need it…for a period of time.
What’s more important to me is your psyche. If you’ve identified with your diagnosis, believing that what you are is limited, broken, or old and you are upset about it, then please read on! I’ve seen way too many people become defeated, saddened, stuck and limited by their newfound reality and too many simply give up and give in. It’s sad, real sad.
You are NOT your diagnosis! We’ve got to elevate our perception! The power of this is so huge, that in all honesty, you can continue living with a “diagnosis/ condition/illness,” even on medication(s) and still live a happy, full life…at worst…AND at best, you can even OVERCOME IT!
Who are you? You are made up of trillions of cells that collectively make organs, muscles, ligaments, bones, nerves, and all kinds of tissues. So when you are labeled with a diagnosis, what part of you is really sick? Where are YOU located in that body of yours? We can replace and take out some organs, you could lose some limbs…and you are still you, right?! Are you only your brain?
Let me ask you this, “What’s the difference between you and a corpse?” You have all the same pieces and parts…and that corpse even has a brain too, doesn’t it!?
So where are you? Who are you really?
You are more than your pieces and parts of your body. There is a part of you that is intangible and you can call it what you wish: spirit/ soul/ life force energy. It’s the part of you that animates you, the physical form of you.
Now here’s the quick crash course: YOU – the true YOU is NOT sick, does not have a disease or condition. Your body CAN have measurable imbalances, symptoms, and appear to not be functioning optimally.
The choice becomes yours to make: Do you want to identify more with your body, the physical form that is susceptible to time, aging, and degeneration? Or do you want to identify more with the intangible YOU – the YOU that was inside of YOU as a child, as a teen, as a young, vibrant adult? That energy of the same YOU is still there within, animating your form today, right now.
If you choose to identify solely with your physical body, then you probably should mourn the trimming of your finger and toe nails, it’s so sad to see that part of you go, isn’t it? You should mourn the violent cutting of your precious hair off!
Guess what, the cells that make up your physical form right now weren’t even in existence a couple years ago. Your physical form is always being renewed and regenerated. New cells are constantly being created, old cells are dying off and being replaced. The form your body takes now, with allowing conditions to perpetuate is a DIRECT RESULT OF TWO THINGS: YOUR MINDSET/ BELIEF SYSTEMS AND THE ENVIRONMENT YOU CHOOSE TO LIVE IN.
The Real YOU is waiting to be acknowledged. You can shed one identification for another; you can shed outdated and limited belief systems. Your body may still age, however at a slower pace than the other path. And this path you choose will undoubtedly be a bit more graceful.
It won’t be lonely though, because Robert Frost and I will be there with you.
