The Elevation Principle states: people or organizations will grow to the level of their highest dominant thought.
How do we determine what our highest dominant thought is? That’s easy, look at the results you are currently experiencing. The results you get are because of what you consistently think! Are they desirable, are you fulfilled and content with where you are at in your life? If not, read on…and learn how to elevate your thoughts to experience something more.
Have you ever wondered how many thoughts you think in one day? The scientific results vary on this question, anywhere from 7,000 – to 70,000 thoughts per day. Either way, that’s a lot of thinking!
What’s even more amazing, is we are hardly aware of the thoughts we are thinking!
It would also be virtually impossible to monitor ALL of those thoughts flying through our cranium. It would be such a full time job, you wouldn’t be able to function.
So, who’s in control of all that buzz about in our heads? Where does it come from? And how do we get a grip on this?
Here’s a simple formula to understand before we answer those questions: your thoughts create your feelings (emotions) which create your actions (what you do or don’t do) which creates the results (what you experience) in your life. So if you want to experience something different in your life than you must go back to your thoughts.
So we’re back to asking, how then do we monitor all those thoughts? Well, we don’t. But here’s something we can do. If your thoughts create your Emotions, then you can periodically check in with yourself and identify how you are feeling. If you are feeling happy or sad, it’s likely you’ve allowed some of those “happy” or “sad” feeling thoughts to take root.
Next you have to decide to take ownership and responsibility for changing your thoughts if you desire to change the direction of what you are feeling.
But before we go there, let’s go back to “Who’s in control of all those thoughts?”
Well, we are, kinda, in a way. You see you have two parts that make up your mind. You have a conscious (awake/aware) mind and you have a subconscious (underlying control operator) mind.
Your conscious mind is the part of your mind that is aware of the present moment. Maybe you notice if you are warm or cold, you may notice your breathing, or the chair you are sitting on.
Your subconscious mind contains all the “programs” necessary to “run” your body. You don’t have to think about telling your heart to beat, your lungs to breathe, or your digestive system to work, it all just happens automatically. It stores your learned behaviors, memories and everything your body needs to keep safe and alive. Which is absolutely a fantastic thing. But here’s where it’s not so fantastic…
If your subconscious wants to keep you safe and alive that means it wants to keep you on a perpetual track of “status quo.” Status quo because that’s where your “comfort zone” is. If you approach the outer boundary of your comfort zone, you will be bombarded with red flags and warnings of “not safe,” “you can’t handle this,” “you don’t have what it takes.” Which depending upon your adventure you are undertaking can be good or bad. If you are bungee jumping, I’d hope my subconscious was doing multiple “Are you sure about this?” check-ins with me. If I was going to speak in front of a large group of people to inspire them, then I wouldn’t appreciate the “you don’t have what it takes,” thoughts being thrown at me.
Does that make sense?
So who’s really in control?
Well, you have this massive storehouse of information and experience you’ve absorbed since literally being in your Mother’s womb. Most of it will serve you, yet some of it will absolutely hold you back. You can’t grow in a “comfort zone” of safety, however you can “employ” your subconscious mind to work for you.
You are the boss! Not the victim. You can tell your subconscious:
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN WITH ME, BUT I’M SAFE AND I’M GOING TO MOVE FORWARD IN MY LIFE TO EXPRESS SOMETHING NEW AND DIFFERENT AND IT’S GOING TO GROW ME, AND YOU MIGHT COME ALONG KICKING AND SCREAMING, BUT IT’S GOING TO BE OKAY, YOU’LL SEE.
So, while your subconscious is responsible for processing your current environment and comparing it to all of your past experiences to determine your level of safety and likelihood of remaining alive, you are ultimately responsible for checking in with how you feel and then “course correcting” by changing your thoughts to direct you to an even better feeling place.
That better feeling place will direct you to take actions you’ve maybe never even taken before and those actions you take will lead you to a new and uplifted experience.
You go, friend – go get the destiny you desire!
And always ask yourself this: “Will this not only help me, but also help others too?”
If you do, you will be on the fast track to “BAM” – ACHIEVING NEW HEIGHTS IN YOUR LIFE, BUSINESS AND HEALTH.
