I recently heard an interview with a cardiovascular surgeon. During surgeries he performed, he among others present with him witnessed a most amazing phenomenon. I’ll explain more here in a bit.
First off, I must give him a shout out because while he still is involved in the heroism of cardiovascular surgery, literally being a hands-on life saver, he followed a realization. Many of those he “saved” returned to a destructive lifestyle that led them either back to his operating room, or to their grave.
His realization made him shift his focus to PREVENTION.
A cardiovascular surgeon realized the value he has with his tools and talent, became equivalent and even more effective by helping others PROACTIVELY PREVENT the heart disease in the first place.
Kudos to you my man!
So, what was this phenomenon he spoke of? It has to do with an organ that surrounds your gut, called the “omentum.” Read and research more about it here.
This organ of tissue that hangs down from the stomach and surrounds digestive organs seems to have a mind of its own. According to him, when approached with a scalpel, this tissue would retract! It would literally move away from the knife! The person was unconscious, they were not aware their skin had been carved open and this tissue would retract as the knife approached it! Is that amazing?!? This had our cardiovascular surgeon friend realize the body certainly is more than just a machine, made up of a sum of its parts. He began looking at human life differently because of that interaction with the omentum.

My knowledge has provided me with many realizations and stories I’ve heard where someone “knew in their gut” that something was or was not right. You’ve experienced it probably, where you just “felt right” about something, or felt, “hmmm, nope, not for me.”
My encouragement to you, is to listen to that feeling. We all have thousands and thousands of thoughts rush through our mind daily. Many of them are false assumptions, beliefs, judgments and we can be really good at making up stories, making ourselves right and others wrong, or weird, or stupid, the list goes on… I know many of our thoughts have productive value too, but an easier way to cut through all the hub-bub and mental clutter, is to simply sit still and ask yourself what you really FEEL about something.
Maybe that omentum has a connection we don’t intellectually know about yet, but one thing is for sure, there is something to heed about our “gut feeling.”
