Hi, I’m Dr. Nick. Welcome to the Elevation Principle: achieving new heights in your business, life and health.
How to get your own theme band to lift you up!
It was a moment I’ll never forget. Watching the horribly-funny-classic 1988 action/comedy movie, “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka,” there’s a scene from the 1970’s era portrayal where, “Fly-guy” comes walking down the steps out of his apartment and he is followed by his own theme band! He’s feeling pretty good about himself, really good about himself, until others start poking fun at his platform shoes with goldfish swimming in the bottoms of them and then, even his theme band starts making fun of him. Poor fly-guy! But that’s not the point. He had his own theme band…for a moment anyway.
I was reminded by this hilarious movie scene when I was late for a parade my niece was in. She was in the marching band, and my family was gathered near the end of the parade path to watch her come down the street.
As I arrived and quickly parked, I saw the parade was just about to start. I hopped out of my car and began walking…at the same time the first band rounded the corner to start off the parade. I was at the front line and found myself walking at the same pace the first marching band was walking at as I made my way through the crowd. Everyone else was of course, standing there watching, allowing their “theme music” to pass them by, but no, not me, I was moving with them. I harnessed the power of the theme band! Oh, the drums, the music, the beat, everything filled me up like a Rocky scene! As I broke ahead a bit, their music was still right there with me, just a bit behind. It was like I was “fly-guy” feeling really good about myself, listening to the beat, being followed by my own theme band! Thankfully, I wasn’t wearing any platform shoes.

What’s the point here? MUSIC has the power to uplift you. Create your own playlist – your own theme band! Make it uplifting – what you love. On your way to work, school, to run errands, play that funky music that gets you feeling good!
How do you take this to the next level? Crank it up at home when no one else is watching and shake your booty! Dance it up! If your family members are as crazy brave as you are, do it in front of them and see if you can get them to join in. It’s a great way to break up the same ol’ same ol’ my friend.
Give it a go, and get that theme band marching in pace to your newfound beat! (Minus the platform shoes).
