You know you’re ready for something better in your life when you have a deep internal pull, a “do whatever it takes drive” and desire from within, and you find yourself encountering the message to “go for it” in variety of different ways. You may have even tried to “shush” it, but it keeps coming back.
Let me be clear, it’s not a “grass is greener” (Squirrel!) quick emotional reaction, it’s a deeply rooted knowing that there’s more out there for you. It’s like a calling, not purely intellectual, and not purely emotional, but both. It makes sense, it feels right. It aligns with who you are, it’s congruent, it brings excitement to think about it, even and especially when you know it’s not necessarily the “easy” path.
That is when you know you should go for something BETTER. You are wired for growth. You are not wired for stagnation. This can be in any realm of life.

Let’s face it, leaving “Good” can be tough. Good is comfortable, it’s secure, it’s familiar, it pays the bills, it’s contentment. “Better” is intangible, it’s “out there,” it’s scary, it’s risky, it’s unfamiliar, it’s pushing the outer limits of your comfort zone, it changes relationships, it might not pay the bills.
Oh, but the pain of staying the same over time can be worse. It can be soul destroying. A fortune cookie quote I had said, “Contentment is the enemy of success.” That resonated with me. (One of my many messages)
What’s the formula then for making the transition?
It’s all about baby steps. Remember in the movie, “What About Bob?” with Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss? “Baby steps Bob, baby steps!”
If you don’t ever start you’ll never know! You’ll have BIG REGRETS. That’s not cool. And to start at 110% and leave your other responsibilities in the dust, well that just doesn’t usually end pretty.
You’ve got to get a taste for “BETTER.” Dip your toes in. The best way to start is to look at a calendar. Look at your days, your weeks, your month. When can you carve out some time to devote looking into this BETTER realm? Baby step your way into committing to your calendar and begin taking action on your dreams. Then allow the momentum to build. Make it comfortable at first, if it’s not comfortable it won’t last, it will create strain and you’ll most likely withdraw back to “familiar/content/ soul crushing mediocrity.”

Start the path, and you will find your baby steps will grow into regular steps, then bigger steps, then more and more momentum, then you’ll encounter a day when you’ll be like, “Oh, my I think it’s time to do this!”
To ensure a successful transition from GOOD to BETTER, really think through all the changes required. What relationships will be affected and how can you mitigate any discomfort in them? How can you optimize them? How can you be responsible and congruent with your past while passionately moving forward into your future?
If you take time to carve out your path (time dedicated to it on your calendar), implement baby steps, and think through the transition, you will undoubtedly create success in going from GOOD to GREAT. I’m excited for you. Now go grow!
