Our subconscious mind is wired to keep us safe and alive. This programming wires us to not take big risks, and error on the side of caution. Now, this isn’t necessarily wrong, or a bad thing, however the inherent problem is there’s a part of you that craves the unknown, the risk, the what-if?
Unfortunately, the reality for most of us is to cave in to Fear, causing us to experience adventure vicariously through other means…the media/ entertainment. We have an endless supply of adventure at our fingertips, on our remotes. And we spend our time in our big cushy seats in our nice temperature controlled environments of our home. So, it’s a win-win! I get to watch my favorite sports team, a mystery show, a talent show, a cooking challenge, a hiking adventure, and ride the ups and downs gripping my soft armrests, yelling at the tube through the characters, and eat popcorn too! If an adventure gets too scary, blip, I can change the channel!

But is it really fulfilling?
Maybe for some. I am not here to judge, just to suggest a different path to those that do crave something else.
So, how do we deal with this when we are wired to have security and protection, while simultaneously craving growth and new experiences?
We’ve got to talk to our programming. We’ve got to talk to our subconscious. I know, it sounds crazy, but you’ll get crazy good results if you do. Here’s a subconscious talk conversation starter example: “Thank you subconscious for keeping me safe and alive all these years. I understand these nervous feelings are there for a reason, the fear and all, but guess what, we’re going on a little adventure and I promise, promise, promise I’ll do my best to stay safe and stay alive. So, let’s do this together!”

Then, baby steps. When you cave to Fear, you are owned by fear. You feel trapped, and you look for an escape. That escape doesn’t have to be a show, it can be the Great Outdoors, a new restaurant or a new meal on a menu you haven’t tried yet. It can be a drive to a small town, not far from where you live, a new hobby, a new arts and craft project, a ninja course obstacle you build in your backyard, a camping trip to a new and different place, just not the same ol’ same ol’!
You will thrive.
You owe it to yourself, your adventurous Self – deep down inside of you, whispering/ hoping for an adventure. You are designed to grow and expand with new experience. You didn’t come here to experience life vicariously through your favorite characters. You came here to become your own kind of hero.
Get out there and make adventures happen!
