The Real Truth About Over-committing
August 24, 2017

I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m a “Yes” man.  The word, “No” just doesn’t roll off my tongue too well.  I like to think I can juggle a hundred different projects and accomplish them all!  My problem?  I am a huge over-committer.  Unfortunately, the ones that pay for it the most are the ones I can ask for forgiveness the quickest, those close to me…

I’m learning though!  I just attended a seminar entitled, “Architecture of Production.”  While that may sound counterintuitive, it was more about honing in on what you do best, and doing more of that, while letting all the other distractions go… You see, I’m a big dreamer and goal setter.  I’m hugely optimistic too.  I therefore like to attend and learn about what more I can do to improve!  How do I know I’m learning about this “over-committing” stuff?  I left that seminar and promised myself that I need to do less, better.

where in your life do you need to narrow your focus- Where do you over-commit-

That’s never happened before!!  Any other time I’ve attended a seminar or workshop or presentation, it was how I can do more, help more, implement more, set more goals, etc., etc.…

There’s a book out called, The One Thing, by Gary Keller.  You can check it out here.  In it, he describes how we often think multitasking is a good thing, but we are actually doing a lot of little things ineffectively and it’s all taking longer than it should.  If, rather, we focused on ONE THING to accomplish, we’d find ourselves being more effective, impactful and fulfilled with a sense of accomplishment.

So, ask yourself, where in your life do you need to narrow your focus?  Where do you over-commit?  How can you focus more on your ONE THING, or what I like to call, your SOUL PURPOSE and begin to let the other noise, the other distractions go?

From here on, I’m committing to do less, better.  Will you join me?
