The Key to Growing your Capacity & Success: Repetition
April 26, 2016

It’s so obvious and present in our day to day reality it eludes us.  In fact we even do it ourselves without even knowing it.  You do it so good, no one else in the world could do it better than you.  Are you on the edge of your seat, or are you thinking, “Whatever, yeah right.”  Here it is:  you are a pro better than anyone else in the world at…(drum roll please…) YOUR LIFE, and what you repetitively do.

Your brain hardwires and connects with your body constantly learning your unique patterns of how you live your life.  Not too excited?  Do you find yourself thinking of all the chores you do, maybe some web browsing, YouTube watching, Facebooking (is that even a word?), doing your job, brushing your teeth.  “Wow,” you may think, “How exciting, I’m good at my life.”

Well, let me shed some light on this in a different way.  You have the potential to be great at whatever you set your mind to.  You cannot expect, however, to go about everything you are doing the way you’re doing it and for something great to come your way.  For example, just think for a moment, “what relationships do you repetitively engage in and what level is your conversations?”  Are they, uplifting, inspiring, motivating you to grow and succeed?
Learning to WalkListen, when you were learning how to walk you fell an estimated 4000 times on your bum.  Have you ever tried something else in your life and quit after failing only, say, 3 times?!  You successfully mastered gravity on two legs, simply because, thankfully, you didn’t know any better that quitting was an option.

Your A,B,C’s, multiplication tables, learning to ride a bike, drive a car, any coordinated movement for an instrument or a sport required failure and repetition.  You weren’t great at first, you weren’t even good at first, but you kept right on trying mistake after mistake, and it wasn’t until you were older that you realized, quitting is an option.

What does that mean for you here and now?  It means, WAKE UP!  If you are frustrated with where you are at in life, your solution is simple.

First, you have to know where you want to go.  Who has gone before you?  Is there a role model, a mentor that you could follow and learn from?  What do you think is necessary to start the path to get to where you want to go?

See, it’s easy!

Why is it, then that so few are satisfied with where they are?  That so many are frustrated with why they don’t have what they want?  Well, we could start the list with what we’ve come up with already, that, “quitting was an option readily accessible,” “unrealistic expectations,” and on and on and on.   The list of excuses are endless really.  Rather than go down that road and create justification, let’s go for the solution instead!

The ONE BEST THING you can do right now to get going from where you are to where you want to be is to create a safe, BUILD-UP ZONE.

What’s a safe BUILD-UP ZONE? It’s a place for you to practice, where it’s okay to make mistakes, it is okay to fail as whatever it is.  A new skill, becoming a better communicator, more knowledge in a specific industry, starting your own business.  Create for yourself a BUILD-UP ZONE and make no excuses why you can’t get to where you want to be.  Get in action instead.

Listen, I know people who’ve become runners in their 60’s and went on to win Senior Olympic events in their early 90’s!  Author and professional speaker, T. Harv Ecker has worked with individuals in their 70’s and beyond to help them become outrageously financially successful with just a few years of determination and commitment toward a fulfilling goal.  I know a gentleman who started doing Yoga in his late 40’s and become known nationwide by the time he was in his 60’s with an authored book as a Yoga practitioner.

You got a dream – you go get your dream.  No more excuses.  Repetition and your brain is on your side.  You are already a pro at your life and if that doesn’t excite you, then maybe it’s time to choose something you are more driven to succeed at, rather than being a pro at status quo.  You aren’t wired different than any other superstar out there.  You’ve got it all inside.

Employ repetition in a safe BUILD-UP ZONE.  Grow your skills and grow your confidence and then unleash it on the world.  Watch as the capacity for the results you used to receive begin to escalate.

You can do it.  You learned to master gravity on two feet after all!
