There’s something nice about “getting out of town” isn’t there?
It’s a tough thing to do for most of us. If you have pets, kids, a yard to upkeep, things to maintain, a job to make Moola that you can’t make when you’re not there…it can be tough to escape all of that!
But you also secretly know that if you don’t get out of town occasionally, you might seriously LOSE IT, go APE-POO crazy or BURN OUT and have a MID-LIFE crisis, …again, or maybe even in your 20’s. Yikes, don’t do that.
So how do you know when it’s okay to go?
Here’s some great advice I heard, and yes, if you’ve read some of my blogs before, you’ll quickly realize, that this too is counterintuitive. I like counterintuitive-ness because it goes against conventional wisdom. Conventional wisdom is kind of like blah-ness in a world of complacency and contentment border lining on boredom, and simply doesn’t jive with a desire to gain a deeper meaning and appreciation for an inspired life.

So here it is: you leave when things are SLOW. Most of us either have jobs, are self-employed or own a business and there will be times when things are cyclically slower than usual. Our nature is to vacate when things are rocking and rolling and we have enough money to check out for a while. And on the flipside, our nature when things are slow is to bear down, nose to the grindstone, drum up some business. So, do just the opposite.
Look at your calendar. Think of when things have typically been a little slower in the past with your career/schooling/ family events, etc.… Preplan an escape route and get out of town! Even if it’s a daytrip, a drive 30 miles away to a restaurant you haven’t been to in a while. Anything out of your normal routine will afford you a fresh, new perspective upon returning. And guess what, since you are now swimming upstream with me against conventional wisdom, you might find yourself traveling without the CROWD!
